Your emergency kit holds a recovery phrase generated when you set up your vault. Keep it offline. It is the only way back in if you forget your password.
When you create your vault, HeirVault shows a recovery phrase as part of your emergency kit. Write it down or store it somewhere only you control.
When your vault is unlocked, open Account → Security → Emergency kit and use Print or save as PDF. The kit prints your account email, check-in cadence, and ruled space for your recovery phrase and backup codes. It never prints the phrase itself, because we never store it. Write it in by hand once the kit is printed.
Do not email the kit to yourself or store it in the same place as your everyday passwords. A paper copy, a sealed envelope, or an offline store you already trust for recovery secrets are common choices.
If you forget your vault password, use the recovery phrase from your emergency kit to regain access on your device. We cannot reset vault encryption for you.
If the password and recovery phrase are both gone, live vault contents cannot be recovered by us or by anyone else. That is the tradeoff of live-vault keys that stay on your devices. Assisted handoffs are a separate path and may store a protected handoff key until claim.
